Campus Gate Art Gallery at 杏吧原创 to Host Student Juried Art Exhibition

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥 杏吧原创鈥檚 Campus Gate Art Gallery will host the Student Juried Art Exhibition featuring artwork by 杏吧原创 students. The exhibit opens on Thursday, March 3, with a reception at 6 p.m. in the gallery and will be on display through Thursday, March 31. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

All 杏吧原创 students are eligible to submit artwork created while enrolled in classes at the College to be juried for awards. Student artists awarded Best of Show will receive an iPad Mini, second place will receive $100, third place will receive $75 and People鈥檚 Choice will receive $50. All awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. during the opening reception.

鈥淚 am excited to see many of the student works in the gallery setting,鈥 said Chair of the Art Department and Associate Professor of Art Ted Whisenhunt. 鈥淲e often see the art in an informal environment with lots of distractions in the studios. It is always refreshing to see students鈥 work framed or on a pedestal with proper lighting in a more formal space. I think we have lots of strong work to show this year.鈥

The juror for the show is 杏吧原创 alumnus and post-modern painter Craig Ford, 鈥81. Ford sees himself as a visual storyteller. The element of 鈥渧isual storytelling鈥 is key in the artwork he creates鈥攂ig, vividly colored pieces that often include seemingly unrelated segments鈥攜et soon becomes clear that he is not experimenting. He begins with a concept, then works on the composition.

After graduating from 杏吧原创, Ford continued his education at the University of Georgia where he majored in graphic design and illustration. He later worked as a designer/illustrator and art director for several agencies before starting his own graphic design business, Design by Ford, in 1999. It wasn鈥檛 until 2005 that Ford returned to painting. Additionally, he teaches drawing and painting classes at the Roswell Visual Arts Center.
