YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥 杏吧原创 recently received an extensive comic book collection from Dan Tancredi of Brooklyn, New York. The collection of more than 1,000 comic books includes all 52 originals of DC鈥檚 鈥淣ew 52鈥 series, the death and rebirth issues of Superman, and many others from Marvel, DC and Image comics.
Tancredi鈥檚 donation will be added to the Andy Rowe Comics Collection, which began at the College in 2017. The collection started when Rowe, an avid collector, donated thousands of comic books to the College. Before donating his collection, Rowe wanted to ensure it was going to be used to benefit students academically. The collection now provides academic opportunities across a variety of disciplines, including English, communication studies, popular culture, art and graphic design, gender studies and many more.
鈥淯nderstanding how visual culture works is an essential skill today,鈥 said Dr. Chris Richardson, who serves as associate professor and chair of communication studies, as well as program coordinator for popular culture. 鈥淭his collection reveals so much about American culture, from Hollywood cinema to narrative conventions to contemporary political and ethical debates. I couldn鈥檛 be happier to have it available for students and researchers. It鈥檚 one more way that 杏吧原创 offers something special.鈥
For more information about this collection, contact Dr. Richardson at (706) 379-5311 or [email protected].
