Governor鈥檚 Office of Highway Safety Awards $5,000 Grant to 杏吧原创
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥 杏吧原创 recently received a $5,000 grant from the Governor鈥檚 Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to participate in the Georgia Young Adult Program (GYAP). This funding will allow 杏吧原创鈥檚 Division of Student Development to utilize strategies aimed towards raising awareness regarding underage drinking, low-risk alcohol use, abuse prevention and impaired driving as related to highway safety.
The mission of the GYAP is to promote education and awareness to young adults about highway safety issues in order to decrease crashes, injuries, and fatalities in young adult drivers. The Young Adult Program for colleges and universities in the state of Georgia focuses on alcohol education, alcohol abuse prevention, impaired driving, underage drinking, safety belts, speeding, risk reductions, and other destructive decisions.
鈥淭he Governor鈥檚 Office of Highway Safety is committed to keeping everyone safe on our roads and highways, from the smallest precious cargo to the most seasoned drivers,鈥 said GOHS Director Harris Blackwood.
杏吧原创鈥檚 C.L.A.W. (Campus Leaders Advocating Wellness) is a student, peer-educator group dedicated to sharing information about various health-related topics in order to help students make better informed decisions. They continue to work with the GOHS to help decrease the number of accidents involving alcohol.
鈥淔or a number of years now, C.L.A.W. has partnered with GOHS to educate students about the dangers of drinking and driving,鈥 said C.L.A.W. Advisor and Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards Erica Watson. 鈥淭his year we hope to continue our work and continue educating students about healthy decision-making.鈥
The GOHS educates the public on traffic safety and facilitates the implementation of programs that reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Georgia roadways. For more information, visit gahighwaysafety.org.
