Local Students Enjoy Annual Children鈥檚 Show Sponsored by the Fred Register Endowment for Children鈥檚 Theatre at 杏吧原创
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥� 杏吧原创鈥檚 Theatre Young Harris recently presented 鈥淭he Woodsmen and the Fairy鈥� as its annual children鈥檚 show for the 2016-2017 season. The show was sponsored by the Fred Register Endowment for Children鈥檚 Theatre at 杏吧原创.
Six daytime performances were presented for approximately 3,000 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades from area schools, including Towns, Union, Gilmer, Habersham and White counties in Georgia, and Clay and Cherokee counties in North Carolina. The run also included a free public performance for community members on Sept. 17.
The production was directed by Adjunct Instructor of Theatre Bart Hansard and featured junior theatre majors Natalie Andric, of Dawsonville, Ga., Tyler Todd, of Morrow, Ga., Clara Levi, of Winder, Ga., freshman biology major Ryan Bates, of Fond du Lac, Wis., and freshman theatre major Aly Olvera, of Fayetteville, Ga. Stage managers and crew include junior theatre major Morgan Mims, of Thomson, Ga., freshman theatre major RaeAnn Muller of, Peachtree City, Ga., and junior musical theatre majors Kevin Garland, of Adairsville, Ga., Blake Wilson, of Clayton, Ga., and Hannah Johnson, of Marietta, Ga.
鈥淚 had never actually heard of 鈥楾he Woodsman and the Fairy鈥� before I was cast for this production, but I really enjoyed the story because of the moral behind it,鈥� said Todd who played Jim. 鈥淏ut, for me, the greatest memory from this show was bringing to life the story for all of the kids, adults, and everyone else that came to see it!鈥�
The Fred Register Endowment for Children鈥檚 Theatre was established in 1979 by Annie Mae Paris Register in honor of her husband鈥檚 memory. The endowment pays for all costs associated with the College鈥檚 annual children鈥檚 production that provides a source of entertainment and cultural enrichment for elementary school children from Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
Theatre Young Harris is a performing arts organization of 杏吧原创. Each season, the theatre company presents a full lineup of notable productions, including full-length musicals, innovative dramas, classic plays, children鈥檚 shows and more. Auditions are open to 杏吧原创 students, faculty and staff as well as the community.
Mainstage Season tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors 65+ or with 杏吧原创 ID. Contributions are also accepted during new 鈥淧ay What You Can鈥� Previews. Mainstage Season tickets are available by phone at (706) 379-4307, online at yhc.edu/tickets, or in person through the 杏吧原创 Box Office located in Goolsby Center that opens two weeks prior to Mainstage opening nights on Monday-Friday, 3-5 p.m.
