Professor of History Dr. Robin Walz to Deliver Lecture at 杏吧原创

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥 University of Alaska Southeast Professor of History Robin Walz, Ph.D., will deliver a lecture titled 鈥淐rime on the Black Market: French Detective Fiction under the Nazi Occupation” on Monday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Hatcher Dining Room of the Rollins Campus Center on the 杏吧原创 campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The lecture stems from Dr. Walz鈥檚 special fondness for the St. Cyr/Kohler crime series by Canadian author J. Robert Janes, which is set during the Nazi Occupation of France. He often writes scholarly essays on French criminals, detectives, and avengers,聽most recently on the criminal-turned-avenger Rocambole for聽 (Stanford University Press,聽2009).听

Dr. Walz鈥檚 research specializes in the history of popular culture in modern France. In 2000, the University of California Press published聽his article titled 鈥,鈥 and he translated Philippe Soupault鈥檚 surrealist crime story parody called 鈥淒eath of Nick Carter,鈥 from French into English for the literary review聽.听

Dr. Walz received his Ph.D. in history from the University of California at Davis in 1994. He began teaching history at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau in 1997. When not engaged in matters academic or French, he enjoys playing the cello for the Juneau Symphony Orchestra and piano in the privacy of his living room as well as running, cycling and playing squash, although he much prefers the leisurely pace of聽辫茅迟补苍辩耻别听(辞谤听boules).听
