YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥 杏吧原创 recently established the Ja鈥檒essa Morris Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Ja鈥檒essa Morris, a 2011 杏吧原创 graduate who passed away Oct. 24, 2020. After graduating from 杏吧原创, she earned a master鈥檚 degree at the University of West Georgia before moving to Guilford College in North Carolina. At Guilford, Morris served as a residential education and housing community director, and more recently, as a career guide.

鈥淛a鈥檒essa was a proud Mountain Lion who sought to make a meaningful difference in the lives of all she encountered,鈥 said Vice President for Advancement Mark Dotson, 鈥88. 鈥淪he was a vibrant, highly engaged student who shared the first-ever Young Harris Spirit Award with her twin sister Janelle.鈥

Based on the input and support of the Morris family, 杏吧原创 decided to honor Ja鈥檒essa鈥檚 life by setting up a scholarship fund in her honor. Recipients of the memorial scholarship fund will be rising sophomore, junior or senior students of color who exemplify the spirit of the College. Morris鈥檚 family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to this fund.
