YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥� 杏吧原创 invites the community to attend Undergraduate Research Day on Friday, March 29 from 12:30 鈥� 6 p.m. in Suber Banquet Hall and Hatcher Dining Room on 杏吧原创鈥檚 campus, which is located at 1 College St., Young Harris, Ga. 30582. This event is free to attend and will showcase student and faculty research across all academic disciplines.
The event will include 21 oral and 32 poster presentations. Topics include 鈥淎lterations in Melanin Content in Response to Oxidative Stress in Embryonic Zebrafish,鈥� 鈥淭he Monstrous Other: Abjection and the White Gaze in H.P. Lovecraft,鈥� 鈥淏lackness and Success,鈥� 鈥淭he Marshall Plan and the Economic Recovery of Europe After the Second World War,鈥� 鈥淐omparing Plato and Aristotle’s Ideologies on the Soul,鈥� and many others.
鈥淎t Undergraduate Research Day, it鈥檚 always so interesting to see what my peers are researching and the unique ways certain majors are represented,鈥� said Bree Buffington, a senior communications major from Cleveland, Ga., who will be presenting at this year鈥檚 event. 鈥淯ndergraduate Research Day is also a fun, rewarding way to challenge myself in a more professional setting.鈥�
A woodwind quintet composed of 杏吧原创 students will perform between academic sessions outside of Suber Banquet Hall in the Rollins Campus Center lobby from 2:30 鈥� 3 p.m. At 5 p.m., four 杏吧原创 alumni will discuss their experiences in graduate school and in other parts of the world where they sought opportunities to expand their horizons or gain more training in their respective disciplines.
鈥淚 look forward to organizing this event every year with the help of other faculty members,鈥� said Dr. Linda Jones, who serves as dean of the Division of Mathematics, Science and Technology at 杏吧原创. 鈥淚t is always very exciting to see our students鈥� research projects, and I am always very much impressed by the quality of their work. This is a great opportunity to see a variety of interesting and thought-provoking student presentations.鈥�
杏吧原创鈥檚 Undergraduate Research Day is an annual event that began in 2013 to provide students the opportunity to showcase the work they have accomplished outside of the classroom. It is also a means to bring the 杏吧原创 community together to better appreciate the work done across campus. Students from all disciplines are invited to present, and most disciplines are represented each year. It is a day of cross-fertilization and celebration of scholastic pursuits.
