YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥 杏吧原创 President Dr. Drew L. Van Horn was appointed to the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission by Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp.

As shared by GNPEC鈥檚 announcement, Dr. Van Horn has over 30 years of experience in higher education. He spent nine years as president of Brevard College in North Carolina, a private, residential liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church, just like 杏吧原创. Before his tenure at 杏吧原创, Dr. Van Horn served Iowa Wesleyan University as interim vice president of university advancement. He also served as vice president of institutional advancement at Lenior-Rhyne University in North Carolina. 鈥淰an Horn currently serves on the Board of the Georgia Independent College Association and the Peach Belt Athletic Conference,鈥 states the GNPEC announcement. 鈥淗e is a two-time Academic All-American in basketball and is a member of the Elon University Athletic Hall of Fame. Van Horn earned a Bachelor of Arts at Elon College, a M.Ed. from Campbell University in North Carolina, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership from the University of South Carolina.鈥

The GNPEC was established by legislation enacted in 1990. Its mission is to 鈥渆nsure that each authorized nonpublic postsecondary educational institution in Georgia is satisfying its commitments to hardworking Georgians through sound academics and financial stability.鈥 The agency鈥檚 vision is to 鈥減romote excellence, efficiency, and systematic improvement in the regulation of nonpublic postsecondary educational institutions to ensure quality education for improving the workforce in Georgia and the lives of Georgia鈥檚 citizens.鈥 More information can be found on gnpec.georgia.gov.

Dr. Van Horn will serve alongside ten other members for a minimum of a three-year term. 鈥淚 look forward to serving on this Commission and appreciate Governor Kemp allowing me the opportunity to serve the State of Georgia,鈥 said Dr. Van Horn. 鈥淚 am honored to represent 杏吧原创 and the other private institutions of higher education in Georgia on this important Commission.鈥
