杏吧原创 Community Band to Present Veterans Day Concert

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.鈥擳he 杏吧原创 Community Band will present their annual Veterans Day Concert on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Glenn-McGinnis Hall. This concert is free and open to the public. The 杏吧原创 Community Band will honor all active, reserve and retired military members with a medley of our country’s service songs. 

Performing music from 鈥淎mericana,鈥 this concert will feature familiar patriotic melodies, folk songs and favorite hymns including 鈥淎merican Overture of Band,鈥 a standard of wind band literature for decades, a beautiful arrangement of 鈥淎mazing Grace,鈥 and two Clare Grundman compositions, 鈥淎merican Folk Rhapsody No. 2鈥 and 鈥淐oncord,鈥 which will feature 杏吧原创鈥檚 Adjunct Instructor of Music Cheryl Star on the piccolo.

In addition, 杏吧原创 Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands Dr. Mary Land will guest conduct John Zdechlik’s 鈥淐horale and Shaker Dance,鈥 a piece based upon the familiar hymn 鈥淪imple Gifts.鈥

Directed by Adjunct Instructor of Music Kerry Rittenhouse, the 杏吧原创 Community Band is comprised of many members of the 杏吧原创 community. Students featured during the concert include senior education major Katie Rittenhouse, of Blairsville, Ga., on horn, senior biology major Cassidy Starling, of Lavonia, Ga., on horn, sophomore music education major Justin Mason, of Fairburn, Ga., on trombone, sophomore music major David Akeem-Smith, of Fairburn, Ga., on clarinet, and freshman music education major Dakota Reeves, of Blairsville, Ga., on percussion. 杏吧原创 alumni in the 杏吧原创 Community Band include Allison Arnold, 鈥15, Landon Lovell, 鈥13, James Rhodes, 鈥14, and Armando Granados, 鈥16. Retired staff Bud Dyer is also a member of the 杏吧原创 Community Band.
