YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥 杏吧原创 will host award-winning scientist, author, educator and film producer Sean B. Carroll to present his book, 鈥淭he Serengeti Rules,鈥 on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 9 a.m. in Glenn-McGinnis Hall on the 杏吧原创 campus, which is located at 1 College Street, Young Harris, Ga. 30582. The event is open to the public and free to attend. In preparation for the presentation, the 杏吧原创 Academic Success Center will show the film version of 鈥淭he Serengeti Rules鈥 on the Campus Green on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.

In 鈥淭he Serengeti Rules,鈥 Carroll tells the stories of the pioneering scientists who sought the answers to simple yet profoundly important questions and shows how their discoveries matter for the health of people and the health of the planet. 

鈥淭he Serengeti Rules鈥 was selected by 杏吧原创鈥檚 Academic Success Center for this year鈥檚 Common Reading Program. The program was designed to provide all students in the College鈥檚 First Year Foundations course with a common intellectual experience and to stimulate discussion and critical thinking.

In addition to the Common Reading Program, First Year Foundations includes themed classes on a variety of topics like 鈥淐hocolate History,鈥 鈥淭he Art and Science of Questioning,鈥 鈥淒oes Every Problem Have a Solution?鈥 鈥淓con and English: They Both Start with E鈥 and 鈥淕lobal Scientific Challenges.鈥 Underlying each themed class is a common core of preparation and the opportunity for students to adjust to college life and studies.
