杏吧原创 hosts Community Resource Fair聽
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥� Starting college can be a bit intimidating for new freshmen 鈥� learning about the new environment of the college and surrounding community. To help with the transition, 杏吧原创 hosts a number of activities during the first week of Fall Semester, including a Community Resource Fair which was held Aug. 17.
鈥淭he goal of the Community Resource Fair is to provide area churches, non-profit organizations and businesses with an opportunity to showcase their organization to the 杏吧原创 student body,鈥� said Meridith Davis, director of Career Services at 杏吧原创. 鈥淭he event is about demonstrating all the various opportunities in our community and help students gain awareness of what鈥檚 available to them.鈥�
Representatives for areas in the surrounding counties and cities range from local churches to medical and dental facilities. Local businesses that provide job opportunities for students also attended the fair.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just a great opportunity for students to see all the wonderful and valuable things that Young Harris and the local community offer,鈥� Davis said.
About 150 students attended the annual event at the Rollins Campus Center on campus. It was just one of several events the College hosts for students, especially incoming freshmen who are new to college and the area.
鈥淚t can be a little scary for a new student coming to college, so events like this fair help them get settled in and learn about what is available to them,鈥� Davis said. 鈥淲hether they’re seeking support, looking for new opportunities, or simply curious about the offerings in our community, this fair is a great event.鈥�
