杏吧原创 Welcomes Guitar Artist Corey Flowers
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥� 杏吧原创鈥檚 Division of Fine Arts is pleased to welcome guest artist Corey Flowers to the 杏吧原创 campus on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Susan B. Harris Chapel. This program is free and open to the public.
Flowers is a guitarist based in Athens, Ga., where he completed a doctorate of musical arts in guitar performance with a music composition minor from the University of Georgia. Flowers studied under renowned pedagogues John Sutherland and Phil Snyder while at UGA and maintains a particular interest in 20th century and contemporary repertoire.
His dissertation project centered around a full-length recording, focusing on repertoire that utilizes various alternate tunings for the guitar. As a composer, Flowers is interested in writing solo and chamber works for the guitar that reflect the past while searching for their own voice. In addition to pursing classical guitar, he also enjoys writing and performing post-rock and progressive metal music.
This program will feature selections from Flowers鈥檚 dissertation CD entitled 鈥淎ltered States of Performance: Scordatura in the Classical Guitar Repertoire.鈥� Highlights include Joaquin Rodrigo鈥檚 鈥淚nvocacion y danza,鈥� Rainer Brunn鈥檚 鈥淓lemente,鈥� and Andrew York鈥檚 鈥淪unburst.鈥�
