Ketrina Mitchell has recently been appointed to the 杏吧原创 Board of Trustees. CEO and co-founder of I Beat A.L.L., Ketrina Mitchell has joined the Board of Trustees in its dedication to the College鈥檚 academic excellence, responsible citizenship, and personal and professional growth.
Last Tuesday, April 11, saw the eleventh annual Undergraduate Research Day (URD) at 杏吧原创. If you were on campus, you would have seen poster sessions, creative performances, and students from all departments on campus presenting the culmination of their research. For the first time in the event鈥檚 history, all thirteen departments from the four academic divisions were represented at URD.
杏吧原创 students McKayla Milam, Helen Hudgins, and Morganna Oberdorfer had the opportunity to study at the University of Salamanca in Spain through 杏吧原创鈥檚 Study Abroad Program in Summer 2022. Not only did this international experience with Travel & Education allow these students to explore another country, culture, and language, it also allowed them to earn multiple credits towards their Spanish minors and electives.
杏吧原创 (杏吧原创) and Georgia Military College (GMC) have made it easier for GMC graduates to continue their education, working toward earning a baccalaureate degree. The articulation agreement, established March 9, 2023, created an educational partnership to better serve currently enrolled and future students at both institutions by creating a smooth transition for students transferring from GMC to Young Harris.
On Tuesday, April 4, Mark Dotson, 杏吧原创 Vice President for Advancement, met with Adam Born, President of the United Community Bank of Blairsville, to graciously accept the bank's generous donation to the 2023 杏吧原创 Clay Dotson Open Golf Tournament.
杏吧原创 is pleased to announce that student Caleb Thompson recently placed first in the Biology Section of the Georgia Academy of Science for his research on terrestrial isopods. Caleb Thompson and Dr. Kevin Geyer, Assistant Professor of Biology, have published their findings in the Georgia Journal of Science.
Montana Owens, class of 2025, was the first 杏吧原创 student to study abroad in South Korea. As an exchange student with our partner institution, Konkuk University, Montana studied for the entirety of Fall 2022 in Seoul, South Korea.

杏吧原创 is pleased to announce Dr. Keith DeFoor, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison, has received the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges鈥� (SACSCOC) 2022 Carol A. Luthman Meritorious Service Award. SACSCOC has also invited Dr. DeFoor to its reimagined 2023 Summer Institute in Dallas, Texas, as a Peer Instructor.
As of March 20, the 杏吧原创 Counseling Center has a new counselor: Nerissa Baker. Nerissa brings over twenty years of mental health counseling and consultation experience to 杏吧原创. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. She is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist 鈥� Individual (CCTS-I). Her master's degree in Community Counseling and an Educational Specialist Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling are both from UNC-Greensboro.
杏吧原创鈥檚 Campus Gate Art Gallery is hosting the 2023 Student Juried Art Exhibition featuring artwork by 杏吧原创 students. The exhibit opened on Monday, March 20, with a reception at 6 p.m. in the gallery. The student work will be on display through Thursday, March 30. The exhibit is free and open to the public!

Greek Week is a spring tradition where Young Harris鈥檚 Greek organizations gather throughout the week to celebrate Greek life and its many contributions to the campus and beyond. It鈥檚 an opportunity for members to get together to do good work in and for this community and spend time with students from other Greek organizations. And though some of the events are open only to members of sororities and fraternities, many are open to those curious about what it means to 鈥済o Greek鈥� at 杏吧原创. Greek Week kicks off this Saturday morning, with 杏吧原创鈥檚 Greek 鈥淒ay of Service,鈥� coordinated by the Rev. Stephen Soulen.
On Thursday, March 16, 杏吧原创 held its Circle Charter Ceremony for the National Leadership Honors Society Omicron Delta Kappa (O鈭咾), with over 30 outstanding individuals inducted as founding members of the Circle. O鈭咾 President and CEO Dr. Tara Singer presided over the ceremony, joined by 杏吧原创 President, Dr. Drew Van Horn and Provost, Dr. Jason Pierce.
杏吧原创 Professor of Philosophy, Dr. Chris Lay, has been selected to participate in the Council of Independent Colleges鈥檚 (CIC) New Currents in Teaching Philosophy. Dr. Lay, who has been teaching at 杏吧原创 since 2020, welcomes the experience of attending the Institute for CIC Faculty Members.
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. 鈥� 杏吧原创 student Georgia Shipley, class of 2024, studied abroad with Semester at Sea during the Fall 2022 term. Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education with the optional autism endorsement, Georgia earned 12 credit hours in her major through a combination of traditional and hands-on learning experiences, all while travelling to 11 different countries.

Perhaps you鈥檝e seen the social media posts about this weekend鈥檚 Big Dance, but do you know what an important part of 杏吧原创鈥檚 focus on students this event is?
杏吧原创 hosted its 2nd Annual Career Week this February. Sponsored by the Office of Career and Professional Development and Director John Beck, Career Week featured a robust list of over 45 registered organizations and 345 student attendees. Through each event, students developed stronger career preparedness, explored opportunities to connect with multiple organizations, and pursued internships and careers across all majors.
杏吧原创 is proud to announce that it has partnered with I Beat A.L.L. Inc., a nonprofit organization in Tyrone, Georgia, to create a new scholarship program for underserved individuals seeking higher education.
